Full Itinerary

Unlike our private tours this is a premade itinerary for small group tour. The tour schedule will only be amended if weather conditions cause us to rearrange the best times for each location.

On Day 1, we’ll depart Edinburgh early (6:45–7:15am) and head west into the Highlands, starting with a visit to the impressive Doune Castle, famous for its medieval history and Outlander, Game of Thrones & Monty Python appearances. We’ll then stop in Callander for breakfast before enjoying a short, rewarding one-hour hike at Creag an Tuirc. Our journey continues with visits to the atmospheric ruins of Finlarig and Kilchurn Castles on the edge of Loch Awe, followed by a scenic drive through the dramatic Three Sisters of Glencoe. We’ll pause at McCaig’s Tower in Oban for panoramic coastal views before making our way over to the Isle of Mull to settle in for the night, ready for the adventures ahead.

We’ll start the day with a visit to the charming Isle of Mull Cheese Farm, where you can sample delicious local cheeses and see traditional cheesemaking in action. Next, we’ll take a short walk to the stunning Eas Fors Waterfall which crashes into the Atlantic Ocean. Then it’s time for the highlight of the day, a cracking boat trip to the islands of Lunga and Staffa, spotting puffins and other wildlife along the way, and marveling at the famous Fingal’s Cave. We’ll round off the day with a peaceful visit to Loch Na Keal, keeping an eye out for playful otters in their natural habitat before returning to Dervaig for the evening.

Time for one full day on the Isle of Mull, starting with a tour of the impressive Duart Castle. We’ll then visit the mysterious Lochbuie Standing Stones and the ruins of Moy Castle, enjoying a short 40-60 minute walk among these ancient sites. After that, it’s time to relax at the beautiful black sand Laggan Beach before heading to the scenic Aros park for a lovely woodland walk to see the Waterfalls. We’ll finish the day with a walk to Tobermory Lighthouse, taking in the colourful harbour town and coastal views during the 1.5-hour walk, before returning for a well-earned evening in Tobermory.

An early start to catch the first ferry from Tobermory to Kilchoan, taking in the morning light over the Sound of Mull. From there, we’ll explore the stunning Sanna Bay with its white sands and turquoise waters, before visiting my favourite Castle, Castle Toiram. Next, we’ll hop an short ferry to the Isle of Skye, making our way to the charming town of Portree. The day finishes with a stay in lovely glamping pods, where you can relax under the stars and, if you’re lucky, catch a glimpse of the northern lights dancing across the sky.

Day 5 presents us with the iconic hike to the Old Man of Storr, taking around 2 to 2.5 hours with otherworldly views over the Trotternish Peninsula. After returning to Portree for a short break, we’ll continue our journey in the most northern region of the island heading to Rha Falls, Duntulm Castle,  Kilmuir Cemetery and Fairy Glen. If time allows, we’ll finish the day with a visit to Neist Point, one of Skye’s most dramatic coastal viewpoints, before heading back to relax for the evening.

Depending on ferry times the plan is to sneak over to visit the Quiraing before heading to Tarbert on the Isle of Harris. From here we’ll visit the serene Seilebost, Luskentyre Beaches and MacLeod’s Stone all surrounded my iconic white sands and turquoise waters. The next stage is to be discussed with the group we have a couple options either hikes to the Eagles Observatory or Tràigh Mheilein and Crabhadail from Hùshinish or the Isle of Harris whisky distillery tour.

Day 7 is all about historical exploration with locations significant to Neolithic, Iron Age and Norse times. We’ll explore the rich history and culture of the Outer Hebrides. It’s mind blowing! From the Viking period we will visit the Norse Mill and Kiln as well as Uig Sands famous for the Uig Chessmen.

We will see how the people of Lewis and the highlands used to live at Garenan Blackhouse Village. Before visiting the ancient Dun Carloway Broch, one of the best perserved Iron Age fortresses in the country. Lastly, the holy grail of the trip is the mystical Callanish Stones built before the Pyramids of Giza.

It’s time to head back to the mainland. This time ferrying from Lewis to Ullapool, make sure to look out for sea life on the way! Day 8, is all about the rugged North West coast. Short walks to Clashnessie and Wailing Widow Falls. A wee stop for some of the best pies in the country at the Lochinver Larder. Another chance to visit an epic white sand beach at Clachtoll Beach. Before heading back towards Inverness via Corrieshalloch Gorge.

On the last day of our journey, we’ll start with a sobering visit to the Culloden Battlefield which hosted the last pitched battle on British soil. From there, we’ll enjoy a unique Reindeer Herd Experience where we hike out to the only free roaming herd in the UK. We’ll then stop at the House of Bruar for a spot of shopping or a bite to eat, followed by a walk through the peaceful Hermitage of Dunkeld to admire its woodland and waterfalls. Our route continues past the iconic Birnam Oak, steeped in Shakespearean legend, and if we have time, finish the day with a 1.5-hour walk up Kinnoull Hill.
