Full Itinerary

Day 1: Edinburgh Wildlife & Old Town Tour

Edinburgh Wildlife Walk and Old Town Exploration

The adventure begins in Edinburgh with a morning wildlife walking tour along the Water of Leith, where we’ll keep an eye out for local birdlife while searching for kingfishers and, with a bit of luck, otters along the riverbanks. After working up an appetite, we’ll stop for lunch before heading out to explore more of the city’s distinct neighbourhoods. We’ll then make our way back into Edinburgh’s historic Old Town, learning about the city, its buildings, and the colourful characters who shaped its past.

Day 2: Castles, Rob Roy and Journey to Mull

The adventure begins travelling north west into the Trossachs National Park for breakfast, where we will prepare ourselves for a day of exploring some of Scotland’s most enchanting castle ruins: Doune, Finlarig, and Kilchurn. We’ll then visit Rob Roy’s grave before stretching our legs on a scenic hike to a stunning viewpoint over Loch Voil. From here, we continue west, finding ourselves in the coastal town of Oban to take the ferry across to Mull, where we will have our base for the next three nights.

Day 3: Isle of Staffa & Iona

Today we head out on a boat tour to the Isle of Staffa, famous for its dramatic basalt columns and the remarkable Fingal’s Cave. As we cruise through the Hebridean waters, we’ll keep watch for white-tailed sea eagles soaring overhead, along with minke whales and dolphins that are often spotted in these rich feeding grounds. We’ll also stop by the peaceful island of Iona, where there will be time to soak up the scenery and explore before returning to Mull for the evening.

Day 4: Mull Wildlife and Lochbuie Explorer

Today we head to Loch na Keal to watch for otters along the shoreline, one of the best places on Mull to spot these elusive animals. We’ll then travel further east across the island in search of red deer, particularly impressive during the rutting season. Our day finishes with the Lochbuie Explorer, taking in ancient standing stones, a dramatic volcanic beach, and the picturesque ruins of Moy Castle before returning to base for the evening.

Day 5: Ardnamurchan Adventure and Coastal Castles

Today we venture over to Ardnamurchan, the furthest western part of the UK mainland. Here we’ll hike up the epic Ben Hiant, rewarded with sweeping views across the islands and coastline. Afterwards, we explore the beautiful white sands of Sanna Bay, one of Scotland’s most remote and stunning beaches. Before returning, we’ll stop to explore the dramatic setting of Castle Tioram, perched on its tidal island and steeped in Highland history.

Day 6: The Top of the Isle of Eigg plus Massacre Cave

Today we take a day trip to the Isle of Eigg, famed for its white-tailed sea eagles and abundant surrounding sea life. As we explore, we’ll keep watch for wildlife both on land and out on the water. We’ll also enjoy time on the island itself, including views of An Sgùrr, the dramatic highest point on Eigg, formed from volcanic pitchstone. There will also be the chance to explore the atmospheric Massacre Cave before returning to Mull for the evening.

Day 7: Cairngorms Woodland Adventure

Today we head east towards the beautiful Cairngorms National Park to immerse ourselves in Scotland’s epic woodlands. We’ll explore ancient forests, winding trails, and sparkling rivers, keeping an eye out for native wildlife along the way. The day is all about soaking in the serene landscapes and discovering the rich natural beauty that makes this region so iconic.

Day 8: Hermitage, Lochs and Wildlife Finale

On our final day, we explore more of Scotland’s enchanting woodlands, starting with the Hermitage of Dunkeld and the ancient Birnam Oak. We’ll then visit Loch of the Lowes, keeping watch for ospreys soaring overhead and the elusive beaver along the shore. After a day of wildlife and woodland wonders, we’ll make our way back to Edinburgh, concluding our unforgettable Scottish adventure.

 Verified Trip of a lifetime I found Rob on instagram after several tour companies said they couldn't help me with a custom tour route. It was the busy season when I first contacted Rob and he enthusiastically got back to me saying he would be able to take us wherever! We booked him for 5 days with 4 people total. He was able to pick us up from the airport and we were off for our first day. He put together a great itinerary that was a mix of the incredibly long list I sent him and some places I had never heard of. He was very thoughtful in his planning and letting us know what was a tourist trap and what was worth spending money and time on so that we could really maximize our trip. He truly drove us all over Scotland and was always in a good mood! We often started very early and ended very late getting nearly 20k steps each day and he never complained about anything! He showed us some incredible locations and even at the tourist traps he was able to take us away from the crowds to an even better photo op! I cannot express enough about how incredible Rob made our trip. Every time we saw one of the big tour busses I was SO grateful we found Rob and went with him instead, I cannot imagine ever going on a large tour bus again after the experience Rob gave us. We had so many inside jokes and incredible pictures and memories by the end of our tour with Rob and we were so sad to have to finish our trip without him!! His knowledge of not only the land, roads (often times backroads due to accidents and sheep blockades), land marks, and history was incredible. He is a fantastic story teller and a fantastic driver!! We always felt safe and he made sure we had what we needed for each day and itinerary! I am a very type A, planner, need to know every detail or I have a very stressful time but Rob made this trip seamless and we planned a great itinerary together. Even when we needed to change a few things once in Scotland it still seemed like everything was planned to begin with! Rob, thank you so much for the incredible and unforgettable experience!!  Verified Once in a lifetime This was the best time of my life. Rob was amazing. My daughter found him on Instagram and it's the best find ever. He took us to so many fun places. We did so many fun things. We were able to see and do way more than those big bus tours. Rob knows his way around Scotland like no other.I can't recommend Rob enough. Words can't describe how amazing it was! Rob was the best host/guide anyone could ever ask for. He was knowledgeable and kept the conversation flowing with stories and anecdotes. The planning process was easy and Rob was very accommodating and also offered great suggestions. We had a pretty packed itinerary and Rob still found time to take spontaneous detours and show us some amazing sights (dinosaur footprints).  Verified Harry Potter and Highland Tour I recently did a Harry Potter, Highland and Isle of Skye tour with Rob and had a great time! We covered a lot of ground from Harry Potter filming sights, to checking out castles and several hikes. Rob is very knowledgeable in the history of Scotland and in Harry Potter. I liked how friendly, enthusiastic and funny he is. His dad jokes were great! His tour was also very engaging and inclusive. My friend and I stayed a couple of extra days in Edinburgh after the tour ended, Rob gave great recommendations on what to do and where to go eat on those last days.  Verified My favorite day of the trip I am so glad we booked our tour with Rob! We did a one day trip to the highlands and it was my favorite day of the whole trip. He took us to so many places I had never even heard of when doing research for our trip, and I loved that we were able to be the only group everywhere he took us. Most difficult walk on the tour is the Ben Hiant which is a tough short walk with significant incline. See route details below:

Where do tours start and finish?

Pick-up is from is arranged from your hotel in Edinburgh.

Start – All guests will be picked up from accommodation between 6.40-7.20am

Finish – Approximately 6-7pm drop at accommodation back in Edinburgh

What should we wear or bring?

Luggage Allowance: For 1-5 passengers 1 large suitcase plus day rucksack. For 6-8 passengers in the booking luggage restriction is implemented. Small suitcase of 65 x 50 x 30cm and day rucksack.

Recommended: Travel insurance, waterproof jacket, trousers, hiking boots or comfortable walking shoes, second pair of socks, insect repellent (not in winter), gloves, hat, warm clothing, any snacks for the bus or hike, reusable water bottle and power bank

How far in advance should we book?

Private tours in peak months (May–September) can book out quickly, so earlier is better. For off-season dates, the sooner the better but flexible or day before bookings are usually more likely.

What type of vehicle do you use?

A comfortable and modern Renault Trafic 9 Seater, suitable for Scottish roads. Plenty of space for luggage and camera gear.
